How iOS 14 Update Will Affect Your Ads and Tracking

The latest update to iOS 14 is set to revolutionize how we receive and process conversion events from tools like Facebook. With this change, businesses advertising mobile apps as well as those optimizing their campaigns for web traffic will be affected.

Apple has announced that they will be implementing a policy requiring apps in the App Store to show people before installing them on their devices. The purpose of this is so that when someone does install an app, there’s transparency about what data collection and sharing entail unless individuals opt-in for it themselves via prompts during installation or after downloading certain content like searches from Safari browser history if you’ve enabled tracking through search providers such as Google using iOS 14 settings under General > Privacy category. As more users refuse to allow third-party advertisers to access personal information by opting out at either point, ads personalized too heavily based on user behavior patterns which affect conversion rates across both web ad networks.

As Facebook continues to grow, it’s our responsibility as a company that supports businesses all across the globe. We’ll provide updates and additional resources to help your business stand out in an increasingly competitive marketplace!

Actions you can take

Facebook’s new tool, Aggregated Event Measurement allows for the measurement of web events from iOS 14 or later devices. You can use this to track your campaign performance and continue delivering great campaigns so that you don’t miss out on any data.

Facebook’s iOS 14 version 8.1 SDK is an awesome update to help you personalize your ads and measure the success of app install adverts! The new Apple SKAdNetwork API allows conversion tracking for in-app events, so make sure that if planing a campaign with mobile apps please update now before it’s too late 🙂

If you plan to deliver ads optimized for conversion events that occur on your business’s website, it is important to verify the domain of this site. Verification must be done at least once per year and should include all three-letter subdomains (eTLD+1). For example: if www domains are booksjaspercouk , then also add jasper . co uk as well! We will support any existing public suffix list registrants as long they own their registered TLD(s) exclusively in conjunction with our platform

This would be a great way to stop fake domains from being used by scammers. Many people use the Public Suffix List, but only if they know about it will do so without hesitation and there can never really be too much transparency in this industry as far as I see it.
One commonly asked question is whether or not to register your domain name on the Public Suffix List for Facebook event configuration. We recommend against it because there are many other alternatives that may suit you better and provide more specific information about what they will host in their events listings – so do some research before making this choice.

Note: One commonly asked question is whether or not to register your domain name on the Public Suffix List for Facebook event configuration. Domain verification should be prioritized for domains with pixels used by multiple businesses or personal ad accounts. This will enable you to configure pixel conversion events when Aggregated Event Measurement becomes available and track your campaigns in more detail, such as how many impressions each domain had on the same day of a given month.

If you want to make sure that your Facebook ads are generating the most conversions possible, then take a look at how we can configure 8 conversion-focused event pages in Events Manager. You’ll be able not only for prioritized campaigns but also aggregate data about them so they’re more likely to succeed based on what type of business activity has been seen lately.
We recommend that you follow our developer documentation if you’ve already set up your pixel using IMG tags or plan to do so. Visit Facebook for Developers and we’ll show how with a few easy steps, everything is ready in no time.

Ad creation limitations

With the release of iOS 14, you can now advertise your app to a larger audience than before. However, there are some special considerations that need to be made when advertising with Apple’s SKAdNetwork API in order for it to work seamlessly and effectively on this platform – namely because they only allow one campaign per account (so make sure not to create multiple campaigns)

If you plan to deliver ads optimized for conversion events that occur in your business’s app:
You can only associate your app with a single ad account. But you’re allowed to use the same advertising service for multiple apps, which makes it easy and convenient.
There are some iOS 14 limitations that you need to be aware of. Each app can only have 9 campaigns, and each campaign is limited to 5 ad sets with the same optimization type (e.g., LA for location-based targeting). You also must wait 72 hours after deleting one of your permitted iOS 14 apps before it will no longer count against the limit again so as not to get penalized by delayed reporting data from Apple’s SKAdNetwork API about conversion events in those session timelines on the Facebook platform ads dashboard

The only option for purchasing an iOS 14 device is through auction. The two most important metrics, Reach and Frequency is not available in the ad targeting process of creating your own campaign with these options; but there’s always a way around it.
Once your campaign is published, it cannot be turned off or deleted. You’ll have to delete the app in order for its features do not work anymore.

If you plan to deliver ads optimized for conversion events that occur on your business’s website:
Facebook will prioritize your conversion events and you can only have up to 8 different ones per website domain. However, if there are certain ad sets that optimize better for a specific type of event such as an iOS 14 or later device then those campaigns may be used in campaign optimization but limited by delivery rate because they’re not part of the default list given from Facebook’s algorithm at first glance- unless you edit it yourself through Events Manager.

The following limitation applies to both website event conversion and iOS 14 app campaigns:

The following campaign bid strategies can be used to optimize your spending. The cost cap and minimum ROAS strategy require at least 3 full days of ads before they’ll start working, while the low-cost option is optimal if you want more bang for your buck.

New Delivery Statuses

Ads Manager is a powerful marketing tool for advertisers. Ads manager tracks your campaign and ad set status, as well any problems that arise during the delivery of advertisements on Facebook with the new Delivery statuses introduced in this update.

The following statuses apply exclusively to iOS 14 app campaigns:
Updating Limit: Make sure you turn off your iOS 14 ads and campaigns in order to avoid exceeding the 9 app ID limit. Turning one campaign off takes 72 hours, but when all associated ad sets have been disabled it will no longer count against this restriction.
Pending Limit: To avoid any accidentally deleted campaigns, it’s important to make sure you’re not over your app ID’s limit. Once a user reaches 10 iOS 14 campaign limits in total for their account and they haven’t created more than 9 active ones yet- all future 15-day windows will be automatically canceled until resetting again after 72 hours of no activity has been detected on either end (user or publisher).
The following statuses apply exclusively to website event conversion campaigns:
Setup Error: When there is no domain associated with a pixel event pair and your ad, that ad will be turned off. You’ll need to edit either an existing campaign or create one from scratch in Events Manager so the error doesn’t happen again.

Reporting limitations

Under Apple’s new policy, businesses will be limited in their ability to measure the performance of iOS 14 app install campaigns on Facebook. These types of campaign reports need a lot less data but still provide valuable information about how well it worked and what mistakes were made so you can make adjustments going forward.

The following limitations apply across the Ads Manager/Reporting area as well with some specific exceptions related just to measuring web conversions:

Delayed reporting: Real-time reporting will not be supported, and data may be delayed up to 3 days. For iOS 14 app install campaigns with conversion events based on the reported Facebook timestamp for SKAdNetwork API analytics rather than when it occurs in-app; web conversions will also report back using this same model but at an earlier point during their occurrence so as not to spoil surprises about users who have already loaded your webpage by then.

Estimated results: The SKAdNetwork API will report results to Facebook, aggregated at the campaign level. Statistical modeling may be used for iOS 14 app install campaigns with single ad sets and individual ads if needed; otherwise, statistical models only account for conversions from this user group in web conversion events.

No support for breakdowns: For both app and web conversions, delivery and action breakdowns such as region will not be supported.

Changes to account attribution window settings: When Apple enforces their iOS 14 requirements, the attribution window for all new or active ad campaigns will be set at an account level instead. This means that you’ll have more control over where your share of revenue goes.

Going forward, 28-day click-through and view-through windows will not be supported for active campaigns. However, inactive URLs still report using the legacy account level attribution window as well as historical data from these no longer supported periods that have been made available via Ads Insights API.

There are a few new windows that you can set for click tracking. Starting with iOS 14, app install campaigns and automated rules will also work in these other timeframes when they’re enabled remotely by advertisers or approved manually through Google Ads Console on your web browser. The following settings have been added:

1-day click
7-day click
1-day click or 1-day view
7-day click or 1-day view (default)

Before the 28-day click-through, view through and 7-day attribution windows become unavailable you should take these steps to prepare.
You can use the Comparing Windows feature to see how conversions attributed to their ads compare across different attribution windows, which will help you better anticipate any changes in reported conversions that result from moving your campaigns’ start and end dates. This is great for ensuring as much data fidelity with each user interaction while increasing customer satisfaction.
The changes coming to the Ads Insights API will mean that historical data is no longer available after a 28-day or 7-day view in time increments. However, you can export any of your most recent insights and they’ll still be accessible via our other APIs—even when these updates go into effect.
We know how important it is to maintain your privacy, so we’ve taken measures in order to keep you informed. You’ll be receiving notifications and guidance through this product as changes are made so that there are no surprises when it comes time for the default setting.

Targeting limitations
As more people opt-out of tracking on iOS 14 devices, the size of your app connections and website Custom Audiences may decrease. This could have a significant effect on how well you target potential customers for both marketing campaigns as well as personalized content they might be interested in consuming from within their browser or other apps available through Apple’s ecosystem like Spotify.

Alternative Targeting strategies to consider:

Use a broad audience for inclusion
Use targeting expansion

Dynamic Ads limitations
As more devices update to iOS 14, the size of your retargeting audiences may decrease.

If you plan to deliver dynamic ads for your business’s app:

Ever since the release of iOS 14, some users may be redirected to a mobile web browser instead of their preferred app or store. To direct these people back towards an application you can create a new campaign that optimizes for link clicks in order to get them downloading what they came here looking at.

If you plan to deliver dynamic ads for your business’s website:

We recommend that you use only one pixel per catalog and domain. If you go over this limit, we may not be able to accurately capture the conversion events which matter most for your business; this could lead us to drop certain parts of pages in order to optimize where possible. To avoid these consequences make sure every image on a website links back directly or through an affiliate link from its source file with just enough room between each linked item so Google can read them all as part-of-content without any clutter hindering their search results!.

This will help you keep track of all website domains that are in use and avoid using any product URLs which redirect back to a different domain.

Your ads will now show to those who have opted out of AppTrackingTransparency, but only if you choose one of the 8 prioritized conversion events. Or take control by choosing a nonprioritized event in Events Manager and managing preferences yourself.
